Brief history of Environmental Health Department
The concept of Public health has existed before the scientific coining and definition of the term. The issue of disease and health is as old as man. The African local communities have several indigenous and traditional ways of responding to disease conditions.
Public health is the science of protecting and improving the health of families and communities through promotion of healthy lifestyles, research for disease and injury prevention and detection and control of infectious diseases
The concept of public health does not only include actions taken to prevent development of diseases, but timely diagnosis , treatment and rehabilitative measures taken to prevent progression of diseases, reversal of communicability and limit disability. It is against this backdrop that public health could embrace aspects of curative and rehabilitative medicine.
In lieu of this, the Department of Environmental Health Technology (EHT), Institute of Health Sciences and Technology (IHS&T) which was established in 2008, for over fourteen (14) years now having been blazing the trail in training highly skilled Environmental Health Professionals in Nigeria.

Our Goal
We make it a goal To train a crop of specialized Environmental Health Technologists to meet the man-power need in the various tiers of governmental and nongovernmental organizations, health institutions, educational institutions, military and paramilitary forces, etc.
Our Programme Description
EHT Department currently has four (4) levels:
- ND 1
- ND 2
- HND 1
- HND 2
The programme is structured to last two (2) years (4 Semesters) for ND1 to ND2 and another two (2) years (4 Semesters) for HND1 to HND2, making a total of four (4) years (8 Semesters)
At the end of the National Diploma (ND), successful students will be awarded National Diploma in Environmental Health Technology, after which the trainee can proceeds to HND programme for another 2 years and on successful completion of the HND, a Higher National Diploma in Environmental Health Technology is awarded.
Accreditation and Recognition of our certificates
Both the ND and HND of the programme have been accredited by National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and WAHEB and the ND and HND Certificates enjoy global recognition and acceptance. After graduation from the programme, the student is eligible to participate in National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) for one (1) year.
